need advice on new tires

I am about to purchase a set of new tires for the evo, and I looked through the FAQ's and just wanted to clear somethings up. My car has hotchkis lowering springs and I wanted to run a larger tire w/o rolling the fenders, nothing extreme. I am looking to go w/ 245/40/17. In the FAQ's it said this tire should be fine on the stock wheel. I am looking to see if there are people out there running this size tire on the stock wheel, and if so how do you like them? Was it worth the step up from the 235/45? I am going w/ the Kumho SPT's because they seem to be a good tire for the money and I do not track the car, or really push it to it's limits too often. Thanks in advance.
