All 4 tires need to be same size?

I have Tein H-techs and my front tires rub on the outside only when I turn left or right all the way. The tire size is 245/40/18. They were fine when the car was stock. I just ordered 4 225/40/18's cause I assumed all 4 tires need to be the same size. Is this true?

Also for sale are 245/40/18 Nitto Neo Gen's...have 5k miles on them. Front 2 have slight rubbing where on outside of tire (about 1/2 a figure nail) still in great condition, rear tires are fine. Will sell for $75 each plus shipping, I paid about $135 each for them new.

Not only do they need to be the same size, but they need to be relatively close in wear. You should always replace 4 tires on an AWD system.

The overall diameter of the tires also needs to be similar if not same to the stock tires.

width doesn't have to be the same (i.e., the back can be wider than fronts) but the diameter must be the same between the front and the back.

What offset are your wheels? Sorry to be off topic just curious though as my car is lowered on Hotchkis springs and I was going to run 245/40R18s on my new wheels..

The reason that they need to be the nearly the same diameter is that differing sized tires will roll a slightly different distance for every revolution. The differentials will treat this as if the vehicle was turning. If you have an LSD it is worse since the LSD will work to send more power to the wheel which is not turning as quickly. This will toast your LSD in short order.

I don't know, the car came with 18" Privat Fahren rims and I think they are not made anymore.

Do you mean to say that they are hitting the plastic fender lining in the middle?
