Rear Big Brake Kit ?
For all those who think the stock brakes stink we had them on the 640whp AMS Time Attack car that I was lucky enough to drive to a class victory and 2nd overall at the last Redline event. It was the fastest an EVO has ever gone around that track (and it is a hard braking track). We had Girodisc front and rear two-piece rotors PFC pads and Castrol SRX fluid with the stock calipers.
Lesson here; the stock calipers are much better than many aftermarket calipers (heck we took of name brand aftermarket stuff after problems). Put on proper pads, fluids, ss lines and bleed them well, and you will be impressed. Put on that exact combination and you won't be wanting for brakes I promise you!
They may not have the bling factor of massive brakes but the people I drive for prefer trophies (and they're even shinier

This brake thing sounds like the discussion I used to get in with my Suzuki buddies over the three pot versus two pot calipers on the GSXR series a few years ago.
I always wondered why on the 2003 One Lap of America you switched out for some Stoptechs? Perhaps it was the familiarity with the product etc? .. but doesn't matter because I'm glad to hear it from the horse's mouth that the Brembos do do an adequate job if the right equipment is put with them.
Now the next fun question is what have you seen for recommended cooling for them to help combat fade?
Cheers,
~j.
I knew it!!

I'm not suggesting that aftermarket brakes can't be better (they can if properly chosen and set-up) but often just like engines and suspensions if you don't put the right combinations together, no matter how much you spend, you will often degrade the performance of that system.
I had a Rotora big brake kit (4pot calipers all around) on my car with slotted rotors. I could definitely feel a difference between the brakes. I mean these brakes could stop on a dime. HOWEVER, they were only tracked ONCE, and issues arose (i think due to no cool down lap). The seals in the pistons bsically fried, and brake fluid had been leaking. Rotora is sending me a caliper rebuilding kit now, so I will hopefully have these fixed soon. Aftermarket brake kits, imo, were really made for the performance. I doubt though that they will last as long as the stock Brembos, but they sure as hell do perform. And please don't go drilled rotors unless you want warping and cracking issues. here's a good link for information between slotted vs drilled: http://www.gti-vr6.net/library/wheel...ed_rotors.html
Why the AMS cooling kit of course
seriously that's what's on the car and it worked. You can even use the stock rotors (and I recommend the stock Brembo ones not other brands for one-piece rotors). The Girodisc two-piece rotors are stout and light so they are a worthy upgrade if that's in the budget. The other important parts are the PFC 01 fronts, 97 rear pads and and Castrol SRX fluid.
- Is Castrol SRX even remotely worth considering over Motul RBF600?
- Why would you recommend the stock Brembo rotors over a cheaper, and seemingly similar quality, piece like the RotorPro rotors?

I know chronohunter was asked but I'll answer since I do have experience with them - lots of experience - as do several other track junkies out here in NorCal. FWIW I'm running a slightly modified Gerrard Ohlins setup and I love it. My review applies to RA1s only - you would probably need better brake fluid and/or ducting with stickier tires.

I like 'em just as much now as I did then. The only new info that's come to light is that without a wing the rear end gets a little squirrely when really standing on it. Keep in mind that's on a RS with no ABS. When I added a wing everything was peachy. I don't know anyone who's run this setup on an ABS car with no wing.

Couple'a questions - For a weekend warrior like me, pushing a 400whp Evo at maybe 8/10ths...
