IX Coilovers...recommendations?
IX Coilovers...recommendations?
I was originally going to go with springs but decided the benefits of coils far outweigh a simple spring even with the added cost. I don't need anything over the top as I'll be daily driving the car with the occasional track day/auto-x during the summer months. I've talked to a few respected members of the forum and have heard good things about the Megan coils for the money. Anyone have further input? Megan/Tein/ect? Your thoughts are appreciated. Please don't just say a name, include an explanation along with benefits and negatives.
Wow dude, use the Search button! There's been sooooo many threads on this.
There's also some good info in the sticky above, be sure to check it out.
IMO, either do springs, or look to spend $1800+ for a good set of coilovers. Those $1k systems aren't what I'm looking for as they seem more concentrated on dropping the car vs overall track/street improvement. It's also kind of a crime to spend big bucks on a nice set of coilovers and not have them professionally setup imo. Again, these are MY opinions.

I've searched and there is nothing in particular pertaining to the question I asked. People ask simply about MR coils or "cheap" coil setup in order to drop the car, this was not what I asked however. I appreciate your opinion but there are several respected members of the forum that would disagree with you. A set of $1,000 when setup properly can significantly increase handling over stock or aftermarket springs and I was looking for peoples feedback that have done such things. I am not a newbie and obviously searched prior to posting as stating in the original post in this thread. Please read the entire post before flaming. Thanks.

Please search (or advance search w/ SmikeEvo), there are long threads about the MR Tracks and using them for racing. I know, I have written before on this. What would you like to know?
I stated I know about the MR's for the most part, but was wondering if the basic Teins or anything else was comparable. Looking for options and reasons why the other setups may be a good alternative to the Megan's.

Just trying to help answer you questions. And again, there are many threads that go over this very topic.
EvoM may have a lot of info, but it can be quite a headache to sift through all those threads for answers on a topic as vague as yours. First thing you should be asking is "what makes one coilover better than another?" You'll find the answer to THAT question will help you much, much more towards making the right choice, than by asking others what their suggestions are.
Why? One reason is because what's "good" for one person is not always "good" for another. And if someone tells you "well Brand-x is good', then you better be asking them why they feel that way, and more importantly, you will need to know when their answers are worth listening too, or simply based on misinformation/misunderstanding/hearsay.

Not all cheapy coilovers are better than a good set of shocks and springs, depending on the application. Personally I would stay away from Megans as they most likely don't suit my needs. The cheapest coilover I would even consider is the Bilstein PSS9 and after that the KW V3. My 2C ...
