would that matter for the same tires or is offset a big deal... like can a diff offset fit in the same 235/45 R17 tire?

35 mm; but if you're looking for aftermarket, you need to make sure that the hub to spoke transition has enough space.

38mm offset, but with stock sized tires, offset is not a big factor. What is your real question, though? Go ahead and ask it...

Your stock tires aren't going to be as much a problem as your after-market wheels will be with clearance between Brembo calipers and spokes.

You can get 17X8 or 17X8.5 then, but it's really kinda pointless to have a desire to get aftermarket rims then limit yourself to ones that your stock tires fit on. That just doesn't make sense. You'll end up with rims that do nothing for you except look a little better (maybe) while being the same size. That's not the smartest thing. You could always sell the stock tires on here easily and use the money towards new tires that fit your bigger rims.

If rims are all that are important, then just get a set and hope that you're happy with them, but typically we get bigger rims when upgrading. Also, be sure that you don't plan to do any racing in the future, because you will regret the decision to get aftermarket rims that are the same size.

You make sure you don't mess it up by getting rims that are known to fit the Evo. Vendors know what fit the Evo and what doesn't. You don't have to figure it out on your own.

A nice compromise size is 17x8.5 or 17x9 - it'll allow you to run a 255/40R17 tire without sizing issues. Warr is right about the vendors, but make sure you stick to better known vendors that you can trust (Tire Rack is very trustworthy). There are vendors, not necessarily on here, that will tell you a certain size fits when it really doesn't. Also, when you ask others what they are running, find out whether they're running coil-overs or stock suspension - that can make a big difference.

If you're going to race, you're not going to want stock size rims, and you aren't going to use tires near stock size either. You may stick with 17s, but you're going to use a 9" or 9.5" width rim with a 255-275-width tire, so your quest here to get a rim that fits the stock 235s will not really work. Also, rims used for racing are usually not what people choose as their "looks" rim. What is it you are REALLY trying to do? You need to give us the full scoop if we're going to help you.

Recalibrate ABS???? No.

Warr's right - the answer depends on your priorities, your budget, and what type of racing you're talking about. Plus maybe a dozen other things, depending.

I just got done doing this same decision process so I feel your pain. I spent 4 months reading, posting, talking, and I still wasn't sure I was making the right choices even as I bought the wheels, tires, and spacer kit I ultimately ended up needing.

I'd be more than happy to talk with you sometime or trade emails about the lessons I learned - PM me if you're interested. Or you can check out the journal on my web site - I just started to address my efforts there.

I, too, just recently bought my full race rim, race tire, and race suspension combo, but I spent over 2 years driving/racing my Evo before deciding, and I did a lot of research. I think it's paying off so far...
