HELP!! Scary weird noise at front end
HELP!! Scary weird noise at front end
it started with a small clicking noise few days ago
i thought it was the tie rod ends again, i've got that replaced before
so i didn't pay attention to it
but today, this noise all of a sudden got so loud, and not just clicking, sounds like metal squeezing each other, it sounds like something it about to break, so i went home right away with is only half mile luckily,
it's making the noise when u turn, even when the car is going straight
so i parked the car, and checked all lug nuts, all seem fine
took off front wheels, tie rod ends are fine, sway bar links fine
then went back inside the car and tried to turn the steering wheel, the noise came back again, but not as loud as when the car is moving
if u turn the steering wheel really slow, it goes click, click click, click......constantly, if u turn it fast, it clicks only once, followed by squeeking noise
then i checked the steering fluid, it's pretty low, just a little bit higher than the MIN level
could low steering fluid make the steering rach squeeks like that? actually i'm not 100% sure it's the steering, but it makes the noise when u turn steering wheel, so possibly that's wut it is
anyone?? thanks!!

Low power steering fluid can make what your describing . I would check that first. Also Myself and others have had a loose tie rod end actually make a clunking sound. But not a click. Good luck narrowing it down.
ok, i tried the fluids
the noise is still there.........the more i think about it, the more i think it has to do with the steering rack pinion, cuz it makes the noise even the car is idling
last time ,i had the whole system repaired by the dealer, they said the bill was like 2200 bucks with labor included, parts were about 1200 bucks or something(all covered by warranty)
i'm gonna have it checked out tomorrow, and find out for sure
if that's the case, anyone know where to get these parts at a lower prices???
why does it have to happen to me twice!?!?!??!!?!?!??!!??!

got the problem solved
the noise was coming from the bearing at the top of the front strut
the bearing dried out so bad, when i turn the steering wheels, it makes noise, and for some reason, the spring would be turned by the bearing when u steer a little bit, that's why i was hearing clunking and spring noises
put some lubricants into the bearing, took about 1 day for the lube to work itself into the bearing and finally noise was gone
phew~~~~ glad its not the steering linkage
