That sucks. I couldn't imagine that happening say...on a FWY over pass.

I'll stick with the beefy construction and thick piston shaft on the stock stuff for now

Thats odd. The bracketry on my Flex's and stock struts look almost identical in thickness. They probably labeled these coilovers as off-road use only to save their butts.

The picture does not look like mine (Tein Flex). Mine has the additional bracket between side (where it bolts up to the car on the lower portion - In picture where it was torn) and actual strut body. I guess it was different for EVO 7. That is so weird that it ribbed right out like that even if there were no additonal braket welded... I guess you landed your EVO well from the rallying..... That is some force!

I am wondering if anyone else has had these problems or if it was just a bad unit. do the ones they sell in the UK differ from the ones they sell in the states?

hmm...that does look dangerous.

Is it possible that the owner forgot to tighten the locking collars..thus causing
the strut to have slight play in the threaded part?

A lot of stress inside the thread without it being locked down might be the possible cause of the casing splitting like that.

I checked the Tein website for Flex coilover part numbers.

DSR94-6USS1

is the number for CT9a 01-05 Evo VII and VIII.

Does anyone have the OLD part number of the potentially faulty Teins?

I'm trying to figure out if mine are in the old or new and improved category.
