Braking Issue

The problem:
A couple days ago, while i am driving at any speed, my E-brake light randomly turns on and off for varying amounts of time. Also when i brake while driving above 45 mph, my brakes vibrate and make a deep, low grinding sound. What is this due to? Any advice is appreciated!

You should check your break fulid. It happens when your breaks start to wear down and the fluid reseads. just top it off and the light won't come on any more.

The light is most likely due to low fluid in the brake/clutch fluid reservoir. The float that monitors the level triggers that light. When it's low it's easier for the level at the float to drop to warning level due to the fluid sloshing around like under hard turning or braking/accel.

The fluid level gets relatively low when your pads are low, since more fluid stays in the system due to the calipers staying extended more with less pad material. Perhaps the grinding is related to this. There are wear indicators on the stock pads (basically just metal strips perpendicular to the rotor face) that will grind when the pad material gets low, though in my experience this is more of a squeal than a grind. Regardless sounds like at least a brake pad inspection is in order.

+1 on topping off the brake fluid, but that grinding sound makes me think it's time for new pads as well. Check your pads, it should be obvious if the material is low. If that's the case, replace the pads BEFORE topping off the brake fluid, as with fresh pads the pistons will be pushed much further back into the calipers and the fluid level will most likely return to normal.

For street use only, the Hawk HPS, Ferodo DS2500, or Performance Friction Street are all good choices. Out of all of those, the Hawks will probably dust the least if that's a concern.
