What about not having ABS while driving in the snow? Is it harder/more dangerous to not have ABS in the snow than it is to have it?

snow, gravel, dirt... the only thing that changes is the level of traction.

You do know that ABS's main purpose is to allow you steer under heavy braking that would normally cause lock up and not to reduce your braking distance right?

no... that's ACD (and traction control systems). abs is for lowering braking distances.

4 channel ABS (evo) monitors wheel slip so if you're mid turn and lock it up it will try on each wheel independently to regain traction for better braking... it won't directly attempt to change the car's direction but that can happen as a side effect.

So if you have an ACD equipped evo with no ABS and you slam on the brakes locking the wheels up you would still be able to turn?

ABS is brake limiting (anti locking brake system)
ACD is power directing (active center differential)
AYC attempts to adjust slip angle using on both if Im not mistaken... it looks at your steering input and adjust power delivery and braking to get you where you are pointing.

they can work together if needed.

if you had the brakes locked up ACD would not be working until you let off the brakes and got back on the gas.

One bad experience I've had was having to stop suddenly because some jack ***'s car died in the middle of a pkwy. I stomped on the breaks goin around 70 mph. I stopped in time, but I flat spotted two of my front tires. I had to buy new one's because non ABS brakes lock up the tires and basically shave off the contacting part of the tire.

ACD should help in the braking department as under heavy braking it would most likely lock the centre helping prevent wheel lock up.

But ABS's main job is to prevent the wheel lock up as in slam on the brakes and still have the ability to steer the car, ACD won't do a thing after the wheels are locked.

AYC is just a fancy rear diff that will provide more torque to one wheel depending on which way you are cornering, and has no place in race applications.

I'd say you're wrong on the part about trying to explain how things work to people who apparently think they know how things work...

ACD only adjusts front to back distribution of power and not braking. it's never going to do something crazy like lock the center diff. to slow the car.
