Coilover Weights
Coilover Weights
I am trying to assemble a list of weight for various coilovers.
Looking specifically for the lightest coilover.
This is what I have found so far, please help complete the list.
I have heard conflicting info on the Apexi coilovers. These seem like the lightest but I can not be sure. Can anyone confirm these weights?

My BC Racing coilovers weighed in at 42 lbs total (25.8 front and 16.2 rear). You may want to look into that 57 lb number. These are the ones I have: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=226733
FYI: Stock struts/springs were 65.8 lbs (44.4 front and 21.4 rear)

Interestingly, the 57 Lb number was given to me by ImportImage, one of the vendors of the BC Racing coilovers. It did however, seem too heavy.
This also makes sense as there are many people who say the Megan, BC Racing, and Apexi are actually all the same coilover just branded differently.
So it makes sense that the BC and the megan are the same weight. I just wonder how the Apexi's are so much lighter if there are supposed to all be the same.

The variance is going to be 5-6 lbs (barring aluminum bodied shocks and/or lightweight springs, like Swift). When you are talking about unsprung and unsprung weight (of which a coilover's weight is split half and half), you're talking about 2.5 - 3lbs of difference, relative to the weight of the entire unsprung suspension components, and the sprung weight of the car itself.
While this might be some neat info to have (assuming your sources are credible), 99% of Evo drivers will probably never reach the point where they actually realize any benefit in performance from shedding this weight. Info like this probably shouldn't factor into a potential buyer's decision either, or at least it shouldn't take any priority over things that actually matter, such as valving, quality of materials, and product support.

The problem with asking MOST vendors about a weight of their product is they are just flat out too freaking lazy to actually weigh it. I have bought wheels and brake rotors on the fact that a vendor told me they weigh XX amount. When I got them and weighed them myself they weren't even close. I've always returned them pissed off.
I have weighed a LOT of coil overs, the Apexi's are by far the lightest I have found. I run them on my RS, black drag car, Trent's car, Daniel's car and Trevor runs them, who has done extremely well autocrossing with them, he won the WWIII event on them. Spring rates and setup are important if you end up buying them. I think for the money they are the best you can get.

Anyone weigh the D2 Coilovers? I had replaced my Tein on my 350Z, with the D2s and the weight difference was amazing. The D2 are CNC aluminum, my teins (SS) were steel with LOTS of welds!
Just wondering, because I am pretty sure each coilover weighed less than 30lbs.
