Fine till you get some wear on them. So long as you are at 70+ percent tread, they work well.

yeah, I was pleasently surprised by their wet grip - much better then some other high performance tires I have owned. I have taken my Evo to a large parking lot a couple of times during/after rain and I was quite happy exploring their limits in the wet... snow is probably a completely different matter though.

I lost control in the rain last Friday on the stock A046 tires and did some minor damage when I spun into a curb.

That happened in a major downpour -- big thunderstorm -- on a two-lane sweeping curve at about 45 MPH.

The back tires broke loose under relatively light acceleration in 3rd gear.

And I'm no newbie to high performance turbos in the rain; before buying the Evo I had 8 1/2 accident-free years of driving a 3rd gen RX-7 as a daily driver year round including rain & snow.

Moral of the story -- on rain-soaked roads, keep the revs way down. I had been doing fine in 4th gear, and lost it after downshifting to 3rd.

What's rain? I live in So Cal

I concur with the earlier posts - with plenty of tread depth they work fine in the rain. Much better than the S-02's I had on my S2000...

My experience, including this latest ordeal, is that the A046's are great on pavement which is merely damp. As soon as there is enough water to allow hydroplaning, exercise extreme caution -- in these conditions, the A046 can no longer be considered a performance tire.

I don't doubt that the A046's will handle even the worst rains as long as you drive the car appropriately. My error was in thinking that the A046's would have more wet grip than they did, or thinking that I could catch any skid that might happen. They didn't, and I couldn't. Hopefully somebody out there will read about my mishap and really take it easy out there on rain-soaked roads.

Never ran the A046s on a rain day autocross, so never had the experience of their grip. First day I bought the car it poured rain all the way home on the 180 mile trip. The new A046s were fine in it. But when they got some wear on them, after several autocross and practices, they were scary in the rain.

I am happy with the Yoko ES-100s I have now as street tires. Last night on the way home from Orlando after the clutch swap it rained hard. I felt very little pull hitting puddles at 80+ mph. Noticeably better than the A046s even when they were new.
