Just changed my pads
So I just changed out my pads and everything went easily together except for the anti-squeal shim, I cannot get them to stay in place, they are in pretty good, then I go for a test drive and they fall out. They are rattling the whole time as well. I have removed them completely for the time being just to ensure they are the only thing making niose and they are. Anyone have a suggestion on how to get these to stay on more securely, or do I even need them on. Thanks
It should.... it's actually in the factory service manual to do so. In case you didn't notice when you pulled the shims off the stock pads, there was gunk on them between the shim and pad

I actually dont have the shims (Friend did the install for me cause i was busy with work and he threw them out
) and i dont have any noise or rattling. It should help from what your describing though.

I am not talking about the shims on the pads, the new pads I have have some on them. I am talking to the little metal piece that goes on the outside once the pads are on the caliper, between the two metal clips that go through the pads themselves.
You're gonna have to pull one pin 3/4 of the way out, your choice which one. Then, latch one end of the retainer to the pin that is fully installed, next while pushing on the other end of the retainer tap the pin in.

Good pic, exactly what i was trying to explain. You need to lube the pins so that the pads can slide freely and to prevent rust from forming and you could coat the retainer with some too to prevent rust.
