Coilover squeaking
I have the TEIN Flex and the front springs I believe are squeaking. Is this normal? The softer the setting, the more it squeaks. The stiffer the setting, the more it goes away but does not fully go away on full stiff. What do you guys think? Perhaps the bottom of the strut is touching the cv shaft rubber boot...? I think I might test for that later on.
That's what you get for buying USED CO's.
How many miles did they have when you got them?
Cause coilovers tend to need rebuilding after a certain extent of miles. And that number could change depending where you use them. State wise, for example NY, horrible roads.
But yea, recheck your installation maybe it's not sitting properly or something.

2000 Miles was what he claimed. Everything is 100% to the 'T' as far as installation. Just both fronts have a small squeak...not very loud but noticeable with the stereo off.

very true.. they tend to make the ride a bit harsher.. but sexual.
Oh FYI.. a few thousand miles on CO's will lead to purchasing and replacing most of your bushings and end-links. They'll wear out very quickly and squeek more than a horny mouse.

If anyone has weird "noises" from their coilovers, something is not right. They are either not installed correctly, need a rebuild or are defective. Coilovers are just a quiet as a stock suspension when installed and set up properly.
I don't think coilovers can be installed improperly as they can only be mounted one way. It could be that the shocks are not sleeved correctly and from what I see most Japanese brands have a horrible middle point of adjustment. They are usually too stiff or too soft.
I've always found it handy to grease up the spring where it meets with the seat. Some people have found that a rubber gasket from a hardware store in between the seat and spring solves the sqeeking problem. Its also good to verify preload on the spring. I've had the best luck setting the preload to a point where you can spin the spring by hand with next to no effort (when wheel is off ground).
Well it really depends on if the coilovers come with pillow ball mounts. Pillow ball mounts are really what helps with the noise. The Tein Flexs have a common noise issue throughtout many different cars. Some people get them and some never do.

Not saying this guy did any of those things, but they have all been known to happen.
And, I would never compromise and accept a "weird" sound from a set of coilovers. It's not normal and there shouldn't be any noise. If there is, I would return them and get a different set. That's just me though.
While it is very hard to install coilovers incorrectly (they are pretty damn easy to install)...there are plenty of folks out there that do things that affect the install. Like, adjust the spring pre-load without understanding what it does (which you really shouldn't do unless you really know what you're doing), or they don't tighten the collars enough after adjusting ride height, or they don't properly set the height at all 4 corners, or they don't tighten all the bolts to the exact torque specs. Plenty of things can be done incorrectly that could cause squeaking or negatively affect performance.
