Clearancing Calipers Rather Than Spacers

I am running 18 X 9.5 Rota P45R's and they require an 8mm spacer to clear. They have an issue clearing near the bottom edge of the caliper; has anyone ever shaved a small amount of material to clear for wheels? The area in question is circled in yellow.

this has been done sucessfully on other applications but i wouldnt suggest it on the brembos, they need the material!

I have the spacers on it now and it kind of bugs me that the wheels in the front stick out more in the front than in the back. And if I add spacers in the back it will rub the fender. So ultimately bringing the front wheels back in is my goal for style and for getting rid of the dang spacer.

I have done this on other vehicles as well, but they were on OEM style meaty calipers, I am not sure the tolerances that brembo built into them but it doesn't look like much. That is why I was asking if anyone has shaved these and has not had a failure yet.

think of it this way, you get better handling with a wider track in front.

if you get a wide fender for the front, the car will look normal and the wheels wont stick out.

I'm a big fan of the way the P45R's look on my car so I won't get rid of them, I may get brave and clearance the caliper a bit and reduce the size of the spacer to a 3mm or something. Worst comes to worst I scrap the OEM front brakes and get an upgrade.

That's a pretty hardcore investment to get some Rota's to fit!

I have the +30 P45R's on mine. The 5mm spacer caused the inside of the wheel to just barely touch the outside of the caliper - probably in the same place as you but I think it was on the outside of the circular impression caused by the pistons. I thought what you are thinking for about a split second then realized that looking at the size of the pistons, I don't think there's a ton of wasted space on these things.

I bought a 10mm spacer (which is a bit overkill... probably could have done an 8 and been fine, but this works) and some longer studs and things fit fine. I've only driven the car around the block but with 265/35/18's it doesn't appear to be rubbing anywhere (unlike the 275/40/17's on 17x9's).

Plus I get the added bonus of longer studs for my track wheels

I am on that same combo for my street tires, 265/35/18, on stock suspension currently. I was thinking about getting the Megan Street Coil Overs, and leave the height in the back since I like that amount of gap and then lower the height an inch in the front to match the back. It's wierd how the stock height is not even. I also have a set of 17 X 9's with 275/40/17 drag radials, they have not been on the car except for the fit check, so I am not sure if they will rub or not.

isn't it well known that P45R's require atleast front spacers and real fender roll?

Yes, but I didn't say that I didn't know spacers were required, I wanted an alternative to spacers.
