Steering wheel vibration...AGAIN!
I've got the dreaded vibrating steering wheel problem...AGAIN!!! You know, the one many on this forum have experienced. The one when you hit your brakes when at highway speeds your steering wheel vibrates and wobbles back and forth. I first experienced it at around 4,000 miles on my new IX. Went to the dealership at 5,000 miles and they resurfaced (or "turned") the rotors. Felt much better afterwards...just like it did when I bought the car. But, I'm at 6,500 miles and the damn problem is back. I guess I'm off to the dealership AGAIN to have them fix it. I'm hoping they don't try to resurface the rotors again...that's gotta be bad for high performance rotors. I'm hoping for a new set of front rotors. Anyway, just wanted to share
I had the same problem, shaky wheel at high speeds. Bought new cross drilled and slotted rotors and put on new oem brembo pads. 2,500 miles later it was back, then 1,000 miles after that it was worse.. Did some aggressive "road course" driving and it was half as bad. But Im sick of buying rotors every 6 months, when the "auto-xers" are on same rotors for 20,000! I dont get it.
Have the same problem. Wheel started to shake at 3,000 miles. Brought car to dealer and said they "resurfaced rotors". Shaking came back after 1,500 miles. Back to dealer and this time they ordered me new rotors/pads under warranty. Hope this helps.

The weird part about it is that I properly "bedded" the brakes when I first got the car (with 7 miles on the clock) and when they resurfaced the rotors. I think it's just a design flaw on Mitsu's part. Too many people that own Evos have this problem.
I'd love to buy a new set up, but don't have the cash flow right now. So, off to the stealership again...hopefully they'll replace them like they did for bwoodevo.

Mine did it at 8k and its back at 11k. Granted the car hasn't had the easiest life but the calipers are still bright red and the Brembo decals are white. If they aren't fixed this time, I am gonna buy some Baer 2 piece and a different brand of pads.
*edit* do you wash your car and leave it set instead of driving it a bit to dry the brakes? I know it sounds stupid but I wonder if that contributes to the problem?

I had the same problem with my evo at about 3500 miles.Took it to a local suspension shop. They resurfaced the rotors and the problem went away.Im at 13K and the brakes work just fine.

Yes, a couple of the guys are correct...it actually is uneven pad transfer. Rotors don't technically "warp"...I think that's just what the stealership calls it.
When I wash my car, it's in the morning before I drive anywhere so the brakes are cold. Then when I finish washing I go out for a drive. I use one of those Mr. Clean magic wash contraptions that sprays purified water so it dries without spots (btw, it works pretty well). When I'm done rinsing with the purified water, I go out for a drive on the highway to blow all the water away.
Oh well...going to go see if I can get the rotors replaced under warranty (which they should). And if it does it again I'll have to find some change in my couch cushions so I can go buy some new rotors/pads.
