Question brembo pins

Has anybody else lost the pins that hold the rear pads in. I lost 2 a few weeks ago at a track day and figured maybe I just didn't put them in all the way. Today I lost 1 at Road America along with the new spring clip that came with the 2 new pins I checked them frickin 3 times and they were in 100% for sure. What gives here? I understand the STI has the same rear caliper and I'm starting to think that the Subi parts are the way to go on this even though the guy next to me in the pits took a hour to do his rear pads on his STI. The STI pins have cotter pins through them that hold them in for a positive fit.

Stupid question, but when you put the pins in, do you put them in so they are flush with the caliper surface? (I.E. not protruding out at all if you were to look straight down)?

Other than that, i really cant think of a reason why this would happen.

They got tapped all the way in beyond flush, sticking out about 1/4" or so on the outboard side.

Pull your pads and check to see if the four pad guides are intact, one of mine broke off and I kept loosing my pins until I discover one was broken.

See my post.

I've asked about the Sti pins - they do not take longer than the Evo pads. In fact, they are faster to me because you don't have to tap them through from the back. I haven't found any answers, but if you do find something out, let me know because I'd love to switch over.

Am I right in assuming that replacing that part solved the problem? I'm at work right now and can't check to see if 1 in broken. Strange that broken part didn't fall out with the pins.

the plates are a hardened material that doesn't wear out like the alloy the caliper is made of. but if it was broken I could see it causing the pins to fall out.

Well sort of. I couldn’t find a replacement part, no one had a stock number for this piece and it’s not part of the rebuild kits I could find. I ended up buying a used set of calipers from the classifieds. And the pins don’t fall out of the new (used) calipers. I’m about 95% positive this little guide plate was the reason why my pins were falling out.

If you are stock then you have a chance.

But if they open it up and see that your flywheel has blueing all over it then it may be denied.

just tbe, forge dv, walbro pump, tune, and hotchkis springs. My clutch is going out right now, i have 39k miles, pretty sure its on stock clutch. My 5th was grinding, but after doing shifter bushings it went away but now it grinds hard going into 4th every time.

Previous owner said he had the synchros done under warranty, so I was going to ask for them to replace the whole unit.

sorry for hijacking your thread cfdfireman
