Question braking problem

Hello Everybody,
I dont know weather you people would have felt it or not but i sometimes find my evo's brakes to be not as effective as the other cars i drive. Here is the problem, In the first i used to get the ABS light ON.now that day i was doing a 100 and when i pressed on the brakes, the brake paddle was ROCK HARD and was not as effective it should have been, even the ABS light was off.it happens offently,i hope never happens when im racing.
The brake pads are almost new, soo what can be the solution to this?should i change the pads?oil?or does it have something to do with the ABS?
By the way, does AEM EMS has anything to do with ABS light?some guy from the company said that.
Thanks for the help.

different pads bite differently and have different longitivity... so.. depends on the the pad you use...

This doesn't sound like a bedding problem. If the pedal goes hard, it sounds like a power-assist issue. If you've driven a non-power-brakes car, and it feels similar, then its that for sure. If its NORMALLY soft and squishy, and it goes hard randomly, I'd bleed the brakes, and if the problem persists, I'd say go with a new master cylinder. I had a '68 Datsun 510 (Nissan Bluebird for you Jdmblackevo8) and when the master cylinder started to go, the pedal would be super soft untill I popped it up.

Now that I think of it, it could be your rotors as well. If you're using aftermarket disks, they can sometimes "wobble" in a straight line and push the pistons in the calipers out. When you go to push the pedal, the pistons have more room to travel, and the "normal" feeling would be a squishy, or long-travel pedal. I get this in the touring car due to the 2-piece rotors and down the straights I have to tap the pedal to pop them in. Try hitting the brakes twice a couple times when it is NOT doing the hard-pedal thing, and if the pedal gets harder, then I think you're used to the wrong feel. I hardly ever hear of people complaining about brakes being too hard. The touring car for instance takes about 150lbs of pedal pressure to lock the brakes, and its this way for good reason.

These are all simple ideas, and some are easier to check than others.

If your ABS light is on, its definitely an abs problem. I have a similar problem, mine comes on over a certain mph on the freeway and the pedal gets stiff as well. Happened on stock rotors/pads and now pfcs with ferodos. Below 70, everything works fine. Tap the pedal over 70, and the pedal is stiff, car pulls to the left, and the brakes barely work. Once I get it slowed down below 70, my pedal will kick in again. Its really weird. Dealer is looking at it now, they checked the wheel sensors (code abs was throwing) and got nowhere. Will update once my problem is finally fixed, it sounds the same as yours.

Thats my exact problem. Basically just got off the phone with the service writer and he told me since I have exhaust on the car they arent going to work on it anymore. Funny, considering this is the 4th time they have taken it in for the same problem. Now all of a sudden since they have run out of things to try they are giving up and copping out. I called MMNA and opened a case on it, they are supposed to get back to me after the weekend. When it first started a few months ago, they said it was the passenger front wheel sensor that was tripping a malfunction. They changed it with no success. Now they are saying the sensors are tripping on 2 other wheels as well, 3 total. They checked the "resistors" yesterday, no luck there. No play in the suspension at all. No freakin clue. Im seriously pissed right now, thats all I know.

well they can't deny warranty work on brakes because you have an exhaust, the manufacturer has the burden of proof that the aftermarket part caused the problem. An exhaust is not going to cause a brake problem. But the fact that you have different pads and rotors than stock, you're stuck like Chuck. Unless MMNA somehow misses that fact, you might be ok.

Give me an update once you hear how this stupid problem can get fixed. Having this problem with the car is extremely unsafe for driving on the highway.

I totally agree, I dont like driving on the freeway until the abs light kicks on.

The sad thing is I didnt put the brakes on until they told me. I was running stock rotors/pads up until they told me they think it might be excessive runout in the rotors and my pads were almost gone. Service writer told me to throw the new brakes on, and it didnt change a thing. Now they are saying I need to take it back to stock, brakes and all, for them to fix it. So ghey. Still havent heard from mitsu. The last thing they told me was my zeitronix wideband was "ecu management" and it was sending signals to the ecu causing the abs to freak out. Wow...the abs is 1) a seperate computer, and 2) a wideband is a gauge, for the love of god. It reads info, it doesnt send it.

Official word from the regional manager is warranty denied. I will be taking them to court for this. I asked to speak with him, and they said he should call me this week. Denying warranty for a brake problem is bad juju, I highly doubt a judge would be too happy with them.
