On the flip side of that coin, if you buy crap shocks, no matter how well they're set up, they're still crap. I said this in another thread, but...

Penske
Bilstein
Ohlins
Koni
Moton

Those are the manufacturers that everyone agrees on. There are a couple on the bubble (KW, JIC) but go with someone from that list and you'll end up with a quality suspension, as long as its set up right.

Remember... shocks are expensive, springs are cheap.

For under 2k, Stance would be my choice.

For under 2k, Bilstein PSS9 or zzyzx single adjustables would be my choice.

Any downside to PIC/Pure Tuning coilovers? I'm having a hard time finding any reason to pick a different coilover/another company than them for the under $2k price range...... Just wondering if there is a good reason to not pick them, or what benefit there would be to buy a different brand coilover for under $2k....

The PIC products, and the PIC / Pure Tuning TSO's and TT's are not for everyone, plain and simple. I'd go so far as to say that coilovers are *necessary* for only a very small fraction of the market, maybe 5-10% of those who buy Evo's. But I suppose the difference between us and others is that we make this point very clear to prospective users.

Also, many people find it hard to spend that kind of money on a setup that they do not hear much about, or do not see mentioned frequently by other users. We are as open as we can be about our products, and give as much information as we can, but a lot of the technical information is way over the heads of most drivers, and it's often just easier to choose from the names that you already have heard a lot about. That's why we also educate the consumer as much as possible.

Doing the latter also takes care of the former. The more you know about PIC's products, the better idea you have of whether or not you need PIC's products. In the end, we're not selling to the masses but we also have a higher percentage of happy users who are getting exactly what they want, and nothing that they don't.

Someone on here posted up a link to an article written by a suspension expert. He took a lot of Japanese stuff, as well as Penske, Ohlins, Bilstein, and Koni, put 'em all on a shock dyno, and I believe ripped them apart too. The Japanese stuff was crap, with shim stacks apparently in upside-down, total inconsistency between shocks, and no consistence between runs with the same shock(s). It was an interesting read, and I came away from it saving my money for Ohlins. I already had decided against anything with a shared compression/rebound adjuster, due to the obvious bleed factor between the two circuits.

Yes, and he also expresses some dissatisfaction even with Konis as well.

But not everyone has facts (test data) to back it up. Dennis's standards are pretty high, and every shock has it's peculiarities.
