will 245/45/17 works

I have the stock evo 9 rims and the tires they sent me are 245/45 instead of 245/40 like i ordered, and they didnt charge me extra for the different size but im wanting to know if 245/45 is fine?

Wow - there is lots of info out on this forum on this subject.

From my own experience, I ran some 245/45/17 NT555's on my car for a couple of months - hated them - it was like riding on soap! Real loose in the corners.

I switched to 255/40/17 RT-615's and they work much better. This size is a better match to the 235/45/17's Advan's that come on the EVO.

IMHO - it is not a good idea to increase the sidewall height on a EVO.

2 cents - Sick Speed

I really doubt that. I run 245/45/17 RT-615s on stock wheels and they dont rub at all. And that is lowered on Tanabe GF-210s and the fact the RT-615s are known for being wide for their rated contact patch (ie the 245).

You should be just fine. In fact 245/40 would be smaller than stock in overall diameter and that was the wrong size you ordered anyway. Hope this helps...

i just ran these a couple weeks ago. the only thing they rubbed was the innerplastic at lock. they didnt rub much but they do. and the bigger sidewall does have alot more sway.

What type of tires are you guys running that are rubbing? My RT-615s do not rub in the slightest bit, even at full lock.

well then i have a problem lol cause my 235/45 are rubbing on the inside so looks like im going to need to put the stock springs back on.

I generally dont take sharp turns either so im not concerned about my handling around corners i dont do autox or roadrace

These tires are kumho esctas MX same as the ones i had before.

I run 245/45-17 Proxes4s for my winter tires on my stock rims and they don't rub. I have coilovers as well.

I have these (falken 451's) and expierence no rub at all, lowered on Swift springs. If you drag race any, this size will help ya run 4th gear out a lil more (reason I went with them).

Hmmm....odd. 235/45/17 is the stock tire size.

yes. 245/40 yields a smaller overall diameter than the stock 235/45. It is about 7.75mm smaller in OD.

a 45 sidewall is what you want on a 17" wheel

I would imagine a 40 sidewall on a 17" wheel would threow off your speedo

stock wheels I run 235/45/17
18" wheels I run 255/35/18
