tire replacment help!

i blew a tire lastnight and i went to discount tire to get a replacment, the guy said u have to get same tire becouse its AWD and the TRANY can go bad haveing 1 tire with different thread! IS THAT TRUE?

really you're supposed to replace all 4 on AWD.

the reason being is that more tread makes for a larger circumference, and more circumference means less revolutions to go the same distance. so essentially if you have a tire on the left side with 3/32's of tread, and one on the right side with say 6/32's of tread, the one on the right will be spinning a few less times to go that same distance. it might not be alot, but over time this causes the differential to have work more, creating more heat and over time stressing it and making it go bad.

i have been told by some people that you shouldn't worry about this, and i have been told been told by others it is a big worry, but the way i look at it, i would rather err on the side of caution. because a differential is more exspensive than to replace than some tires.
