Having some Braking Issues

My brother came down from Austin and he wanted to see how my car drives. I took him to a long stretch of clear open road to show him how it accelerates. I was at about 135-140 MPH and a few seconds after doing some mid-intensive braking, I noticed the car didn't want to stop. It seemed to me that the Disks were getting too hot, and this heat prevented the brake pads from gripping on to the disks. Of course this is just an assumption.

My foot was completly on the ground with the brakes, yet the car was slowly slowly coming to its stop. It wasnt doing the "my eyes flew out my head" braking. The funny thing is before, when I used to get on the brakes a little hard, it would start to do the squeeling sound which I read was normal. Now that doesn't even happen, the car just doesnt want to stop. I let the car rest for about 15 minutes as we ate, went back in the car and the brakes were back to normal again.

Would this be because the Disks were getting too hot? Would resurfacing the disks be a remedy to this issue?

Could it also be that I need new brake pads? I still have the stock brake pads, at 24,000 miles.

If I invested in Slotted Disks in the front, would there be enough difference for me to notice from stock disks?

Anyone else experience this?

I sure hope you aren't doing a 140 mph on public roads too often.

In any case, get a set of Hawks, Ferodos, project Mu, etc. Which variety of these is up to you and your intended use. Some are good for street (i.e. Hawk HPS) and others are more for track use.

Seach "brake pads" and I'm sure you get plenty of information.

By the way, I just got slotted front rotors and the Hawk HPS and my stopping has never felt better.

The heat generated when using the brakes like that is very taxing on the fluid and pads and rotors.

Better pads help - and flushing the fluid with something that is more resistant to the heat would be the first thing to do.

Slotted rotors help a little - but the pads are the fist thing to choose - they make the most difference out of everything.

Hawk HP+ pads
Hawk HPS pads
Ferrodo DS2500 pads

these are the two favorites. i personally have the HPS pads on another car and seem to work well for the street. the HP+pads are a little more agressive for light track work=same with the ferrodo pads.
