What's the depth of the scratch and what caused it.

I would pull the pad and investigate. If the scratch is superficial, i'd leave as is, if it is deeper, you'll have to evaluate how deep.

The big question i have is how did it happen? Is there something embedded in the pad?

It looks like getting the rotors cut would be an easy fix. However, you will need new pads if you get the rotors cut. Doesn't look problematic though.

if the pads and rotors are worn..... let them ride til it is time to replace! my S-10 had a 3/8 deep gouge in the right front rotor for almost 6 months and i didnt have problems stopping while pulling a trailor.

Pull the pad and see if anything is still caught in it... otherwise you are fine.

BTW DO NOT "cut" or have your rotors "turned". See links:

It's NOT just an opinion...
