Please Help! Very annoying!

I installed new brake pads about 2 weeks ago. The new pads began to squael really bad. I asked some one about this and they told me it would stop once you brake them in. Unfortunetly the squaeling hasnt stopped, instead it got louder!

How can I fix this?
Any suggestions?
Please Help!

Thank You

Do you have any more information on the install? What pads you used, etc etc?

did you reuse the stock shims?

did you apply anti squeal grease to the back of the pad?

did you properly bed the pads?

...

with the info you are giving us, it's like going to a Toyota dealer and saying "I want a Toyota."

give us some details bro

All I really did was ordered some ceramic pads from Carquest and installed them. I didnt put any grease on the back of the pads. I reused the same pins that were on the calipers.

Sorry guys Im new at this whole thing.

Thanks for your replies and help.

I would bring them back. Ceramic pads should not squeek at all. Explain it to them and I am sure they will help you out. Look into getting aftermarket pads. They are not that much more expensive and are night and day difference from anything you can get at the parts store.

I currently have EBC redstuff and have used the greenstuff as well. They squeel like crazy esp. on light cruise braking, but they stop on a dime. So every time someone looks at me because my brakes squeel, I just look at them and remember, hey my car is faster than yours! haha

He's got the right questions for you. You should ask whomever you bought them from if you needed to reuse the stock shims again on these pads. some require it, some dont.

I sell brake pads for a living. Semi-metallic or low-steel pads definitely squeal more than non-asbestos organic or better known as "ceramic" pads, but after maybe 200 or 300 brake applies (called burnishing) they should be worn in sufficiently and any squealing due to newness (which should be minimal anyway) should be gone. If it is still bad, I would go back to the store and ask them about it.

Just my two cents. The pads that come stock on this car are I think from Akebono, and being from Michigan I am getting a LOT of cold noise squeal. But then again just about any pad formulation is going to exhibit cold noise squeal to a certain extent.

Burnishing or breaking in new pads is not that complicated of a process. We used to just take the car, drive it along at something like 25-40 mph, and just step on the brake pedal, slowing down to 10-15mph, and then accelerate, and do it again. We would do that 50 times or so and then drive normally.

All pads are either scorched or have a coating on the outside to facilitate this process, and so that they still have close to full effectiveness in "green" condition, so that should not affect things as much as one would think...

Unless these are some low-grade Chinese made specials that he bought for $10 with a lifetime warranty. LOL

I would take the pads back off and grease all the contact points with anti-squeal. This should take care of it.

I have ceramic pads on my car. I reused the factory shims with just a very little grease on the backs and I have no noise. So, dunno.
