i had a set of bridgestone blizzack lm-22's. loved them. great tires for the snow, and not that bad for just cruising around on.

a couple months ago i traded them plus a little cash for a set of evo viii enkei's with bridgestone blizzak ws-50's on them.

so far i have been happy with the ws-50's. they're considered more of a hardcore snow tire, so they're not as comfortable or responsive in dry conditions.

i wish i could tell you how they are in the snow, but so far this winter we haven't gotten any substantial snowfall in pittsburgh for me to test them with. heh.

judging by my last set of blizzak's, i am sure these ones will perform amazingly in the snow. with the lm-22's i never had any problems getting anywhere.

additionally, the tread life seems to be very good. i rode my first set through two seasons (approximately 8k miles total), and they really didn't show very much wear at all. i would guess you could easily get 5 or 6 seasons out of a set.

-edit-

i got the lm-22's for about 800, shipped. from tire rack.

This is what Im running, Nokian Hakka 4s. If the snow isnt over 1', it's all good. They handle very good on the ice and snow. The only reason I have an issue above 1' is becuase of frame clearance. These tires will just dig down.

I want to say it was around 800 mounted/balanced/aligned at the local Tire chain (Les Schwab).

I have the eagle F1's and love em. I live in Utah and we have had incredible amounts of snow this year. So far no problems and I have 1k miles on them.

I'm currently running Dunlop Graspic DS-2's. We get a lot of snow out here in utah and i have never lost traction with these tires. Just last night the roads were really icy and my tires didn't slip once

I have Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2's (winter performance tire) and they have performed very well in deep snow as well as packed snow conditions. Plus, when the roads are dry and you want to drive a little harder, these tires have better dry weather handling characteristics than a standard studless snow tire.

Not cheap but no question the best are the RSi by Nokian.

Hankook makes a knockoff if you can find them.

I had 235/45/R17s if I remember right, they may have been 235/40/R17s though (is that the stock size? been way too long since I've been around a stock Evo).

Now its the dig-in 225/40/R18s and the snow-pontoon 265/35/R18s. Its really weird driving a car with that different of tire sizes after driving the Evo for 3 years. Much harder to control in deep snow at moderate speeds, since the front tires dig in and the back tires act like skis.

Narrower tires will "carve" through the snow better.

I've had Nokian's...and they are amazing tires in the snow. due to aggressive tread design, it does have a good amount of humming on the highway.

I've had the Continental Contiwinters for the past two winters. GREAT dry performance, but not so much in heavy snow...still great for light snow falls.

I've recently bought Blizzak LM-22's. So far they're great. No heavy snow falls yet, but we're expecting 6" tomorrow. Great in wet conditions so far! So, we shall see, when it really snows. Pretty good dry performance too. So far very happy with the Blizzaks.
