Project Mu NS or Hawk HPS

Yes another thread comparing these two pads.

I did search and it seems all the threads from a couple years ago people couldn't say enough good things about the hawk hps's and now people can keep themselves from bashing them.
Did they change their compound or get bought out or do something to lower their quality?
Or have people just had more experience with them and now see all their flaws?

And with the project MU's it seems like all the reviews I found were only people who have had them for less than 6k.

I only auto cross my car about twice a year and Im sure either pad would work well for me but I am just hoping for some opinions from actual owners.

im currently running the project mu's for over 30k and i have no complaints. they do squeal under light braking no matter how much brake quiet u use. wear is good so far but i have no track use so im not sure how much better than stock they would hold up, but daily driving is improved. i never ran the hawks on the evo but i did run them on my old integra and i hated them. they lasted 20k and that was daily driving no track time either.

When they wear out do you think you will buy another set or will you try something new?

To be honest, I figure 90% of the people who complained about the Hawks didnt bed them in properly or install correctly. The only noise I had was a lip on my rotor that would sometimes sing when it decided to rub the pad. I used Hawk HPS until they wore down, this time I went with the Project Mu's just to try something else.

Both are pretty equal in performance. Without ABS I like the NS better since it seems easier to modulate the braking force in the snow and ice (read cold) where the HPS seemed a bit more grabby when cold. The HPS is cheaper for a set, more noise initially if you dont bed them correctly. They HPS seemed to have more dust. NS seems to me to have a bit less pedal effort than the HPS, but I went from worn down HPS to the Mu's.

Considering you can get them for 30-50 bucks cheaper I'd go HPS, cause the difference in money isnt worth the gain over the HPS. For me I'm glad I went with Project Mu since they seem better for my cooler conditions. If you track or auto-x often you probably wouldnt even consider either of these budget street pads.

I have the HPS's and they are a great pad for the street. Better than stock and way less brake dust.

I looked at the the project mu but they cost more so I ended up getting the Hawk HPS's through TTP.

Also there is no sqeal with these and they have been on for 5k now.
I replaced all 4 corners at the same time as well. I highly recommend bedding them in properly.

BTW the Hawk HPS comes new backing shims, and the Project's don't so you'd reuse OEM. I just reused the Hawk shims.

i got my hawk hps and had no problem except for the occassional squeeking but rarely happens and only when i brake veery softly. i have also noticed that hawk has ceramic pads but everyone reccomends the HPS any reason why?

This might actually be a deciding factor because I no longer have the factory shims because the first time I had my brakes replaced it the shop threw away the entire old pads... shims and all so I have been looking to get new ones.

Also through lancer shop the pads are the same price.

My big concern is that I have the HP+ pads in the rear right now and Im not a big fan... They are just too noisy despite my bedding them several times

What do you have up front right now? Post up a WTB in your region, someone might have some OEM or extra shims to use. I use the Hawk shims with the Projects.

Call around you should be able to get the Hawk HPS for 125-140 and the NS for 150-170. I did hear a rumor Hawk upped some pricing for '08.

Right now they are the stock brembo pads up front and the hawk HP+'s in the rear but Im not a big fan so Im just going to replace all 4.
I found both sets here for pretty much the same price.
