NEED HELP! Coilovers!?

Whats going on people on EVOM.
I have an evo IX, the main purpose of coilovers for me was to gain better performance on turning then stock and alot less body roll on the turns then stock. a couple months back i wanted to get a lower stance so i just went with hotchkis springs because i wasn't ready to spend over grand on lowering because i dont auto x or anything, mainly a street evo. I got a really good deal on tein basics under 500.. so because of the deal should i get them, will the tein basics perform better then stock when lowered? or is it worth waiting and spending more and getting something like super streets or etc. is the ride on the basic soft or stiff? is it better then my stock shocks with hotchkis springs. let me know people thanks

I took a brief look at your MySpace page. Please feel free to (errr...) drop the car. I doubt you'll notice the difference in handling.

You should only think about coilovers if you will track the car or if you really can afford to put good quality ones on.

I have custom ohlins and i love them. I go to the track about 2-4 times a year and i think even for me they are a bit extreme. I'm sure i probably would be happy with swifts or gtworx springs on stock dampers.

If your priority is looks then you'll more than likely ruin the handling potential by fitting your evo with cheap coilovers. If you want a good balance just get "GOOD" springs like the swifts or gtworx. They will lower the ride a bit and help with body roll while still keeping a good ride and being affordable at the same time.

I've had a variety of suspensions..... and after trying everything I still think the Megan Racing Street Coil overs are the best upgrade for under $1400.

They have a wide range of usable dampening... softer than stock to firmer than stock... height is completely adjustable and they can be corner balanced.... lastly they definitely provide better performance than stock.

I'm not too familiar with the basic's but I have the flex and I couldn't be happier with them.

I will have a set of BC Racing coilovers for sale soon. Probably around $600 shipped, used for about a year.

BC Racing coilover are pretty much a little beefier version of the Megan ones.

i have the works springs on my MR and i like them alot.

they're a temporary fix for me, since i plan on getting coilovers as soon as possible, but the springs have helped a good bit with body roll and cornering stability.

if i didn't race a good bit in the summer, i would probably just stick with the springs, but i am looking to get the most out of my suspension that i can.

^ Excellent for DD but not so much for sticky tires that require lots of camber.

If you aren't on wide **** R compounds you probably don't need top of the line coil overs.

it would help, but you're right. if you don't have a good contact patch, you're just going be muscling street tires around.

i've got a gently used set of nitto's that i will be running this season, and hopefully next year around this time i will have my coilovers and a fresh set of nittos (or maybe something stickier) to abuse.
