How necessary is an alignment after spring installation???
How necessary is an alignment after spring installation???
I have a nice new set of Swift springs that I am installing on my 06 Evo. My question is: do I need a professional alignment after the install? I want to do it right, but I am pressed for time...
I would always get an alignment after a spring install. The car may track straight, but, for example, your toe settings could be off, causing poor handling and excessive tire wear over time.
I don't think you need to make a poll for this, I think anyone can answer this question. Adding springs will throw off your alignment specs ABSOLUTELY. Do you want to be cheap and eat up your tires or do you want to live with it and buy new tires later? Not to mention you get springs for handling and your alignment being off will make your handling suffer. IMO it's a stupid question to ask but that's just me.

anyone know of good price alignments in the chicago burbs area? i went to one shop and they were charging me 99 bucks for alignment because my car was lowered and awd. I was looking at the prices and they had it listed as 49.99 but they said it would cost 99.99 for lowered awd cars. That doesn't sound right does it?
im sure firestone doesnt charge extra for different cars. just go to one. im not sure what the pricing is up there but here in HI its 170 for a lifetime alignment (you can align for free...for life...after this one) and its 70 for the regular one time alignment.
Here in Charlotte, my Evo costs the same as any other car for a 4 wheel alignment, as long as you are getting them to set it to factory specifications.
It's only when you want custom settings, like increased negative camber and toe settings, that they may charge you more. I went to Goodyear service and for $99 they set my front/rear camber to -2.0/-1.5 with slight toe out in front and slight toe in the rear. To set the car to factory settings would have cost around $60.
Also, just to throw this in, some shops may have problems getting your car on the alignment rack if it's lowered, but that shouldn't affect the price, because they either can or cannot get the car on the rack.

I would drive the car easy for about a week and let the springs settle before getting the alignment.Would be great if your alignment gut would let you sit in the car while doing it.My guy does.It might not make much of a difference (if any) but i,m a little **** about stuff like that.A 4 wheel alig. aroung here goes for 80.00.
