Question Front Brake Pad Swap

Do you need the special Mistu tool MB990520 to replace the pads? In the manual, it states that the tool is used to push back the piston.

On most cars that I have done brake on I can either push the piston by hand or with a C-clamp.

Anybody have experience with a pad swap on the EVO? I need to know for an upcoming track day.

Thanks

I'd like an answer to this question as well...

Anybody?

I haven't swapped pads on my 8 yet, but when I used to have a 5 I swapped them without any special tools. I imagine you'll be completely fine.

Did not do it on the EVO yet, but I have done it on many other cars and calipers. I don't see why you would need anything special for the fronts.

For the rear, it may require a turn and push like the VW's and the a specialty tool helps but not necessary. I manage to do it with vicegrips and c-clamp combo.

I just replaced all of my stock pads with Carbotech Bobcats. I was able to compress all of the pistons by hand; both front and rear, inside and outside. Some of them took a bit of effort. One trick is to losen the bleeder screw slightly (with a hose to a jar) before compressing the piston. That prevents you from trying to push brake fluid all the way back up the system.
