Camber gauge recomendations

I am shoping for a Camber gauge and I can't decide between

Longacre:
http://www.longacreracing.com/catalo...d=1299&catid=5

or

SmartCamber:
http://www.truechoice.com/prodinfo.a...r=SMA%20011351

My perception, while the longcre is portable and come with its own case, the fact of the moving arm makes me belive that over time the rig will not as accurated a the straight edge found on the SmartCamber model. - what do you guys think. does anyone have any experience with any model?

Thanks,

Buy the $50 craftsman digital level and tape it to a c-channel from home depot. This was verified to match a Hunter rack. Damn cheap too. If you want repeatable results use a bubble level to make sure you're plumb every time.

Seriously, this works. I can take pics if you're interested.

ok, I'll try and get some pics tomorrow. For now here's a link to the levels...

you need one of these:
http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...26+Protractors

and one of these:
http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...me=Laser+Tools

it looks like they have a cheaper $35 torpedo digital level, but the surcae for the small bubble level may not work.

I'm using the craftsman digital level for my alignments as well, it works fairly well and I like it over the longacre bubble camber gauge.

Bought one of these since they were on sale, and I found some info on how to extend the rig on the MX-5 forums. I'll post that info tomorrow when I buy the parts and verify that the jig they are talking about is useful.

But anyways, I decided to just try using it without the jig to see what happens. Basically try to get on a flat even surface, turn the level on put it right behind the tires and zero it out. Then put it vertically flush against the tire and try to get it as close to straight up and down. The level will then read +/- your camber from 90 degrees. So for -3 Camber it should read 87.0. Worked great for me, as they were originally set at -1 so it read 89.0 and then when I maxed out the camber from my coilovers it read 87.5 (-2.5 deg Camber). Seems to work great =D. Going to take it to an alignment shop and get it verified this week and also have them adjust my toe.

If its as accurate as people say this is a super cheap and easy way to check your camber.

I used to use a similar method, but in the end, I bought a smart camber gauge.

With the smart camber gauge it's easier to get repeatable results which is critical to a good alignment.
