stock tires

the best thing about my job was the drive to and from work. 2 years later the advans wore out at 17,000 miles.replaced them with sumitomo htr z 111.big mistake ,the car (2006 1x) now drives like crap and i canot get the wheels balanced after two tries the latter being hunter road force. lesson here is save up the $1200 for the stock advans.the advans makes the car.any help on balancing the wheels will be appreciated. rasta mike

The stockers are the ultimate but now that you have tasted what underperforming tires are like you can go with Falken 615 or the new Dunlop Z1. They are not as good as the A046 but they are good. I did the same thing. I said to myself let me see what these less expensive tires are like and man was I disappointed.
Think about it this way if you went straight to the 615s or the Z1s you would again be disappointed because they are just not as good as the A046.

Yes, if you want to keep excellent performance then do the Z1 Star Spec in stock size for way less money but not way less handling.

^ Warrtalon, would you prefer these over the RT-615s, all factors considered (performance, price, longevity, etc.)? I remember you being a big advocate of the Falkens, but now it seems like you really approve of the Z1 Star Specs.

Yes, which is why they are replacing my RT-615s. The Z1s just came out, so they weren't even in the picture when I got my RT-615s...nor were the RE-01Rs.

Did you ever get the Z1? Review?

Yep, I got them, and although I haven't done any twisty racing on them yet, I already feel the snappy turn-in and response that I expected. They feel better than the RT-615s on the street, but until I push them hard on my home track, I will reserve judgement. The thing is, though, that they are already the dominant tire in SCCA street tire classes (auto-x), so there's nothing to prove. The RT-615s are not even a competitive tire in street tire classes, so we already know which one is better.

i got the star specs in 255/40/17 to replace my stockers. my review so far is that it feels as grippy as my stockers but the steering response is more sluggish slightly.
