do my rotor need resurfacing???

so i was driving yesterday and out of nowhere, i hear the sound that means i most likely need new brake pads. there was just this metal on metal sound. i took a look and noticed a gouge in my rotor. i read timzcat's thread on not needing to resurface the rotors every time:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=81487

this is my first brake pad change on this car and it has 22k miles on it.

so what do you guys think? Do i need to resurface it? Thanks

If you're metal on metal, don't drive it until you have new pads to put on. From the pics it doesn't look like your rotors are in bad shape, but that might change in a hurry.

I usually turn them when there is a grove worn into the rotor..... I would recommend having them turned when you replace the pads. Also, if you really are metal to metal, definitely minimize driving.

The question is what do the pads look like? That tiny grove by itself means nothing.

resurfacing, turned, cut, are all the same thing! i always recomend cutting your rotor when replacing pads. if you don't you will get noise and a pulsation. do this once, the next time you are due for brake work buy pads and rotors.

i always resurface, it's like 10 bucks per rotor at a machine shop. you're brakes look fine to me, i've seen a lot worse, but $40 is worth it for me - considering the abuse they take on the track.

I wouldn't resurface that rotor, but it's your call. What will be interesting to see is what the other side of the rotor looks like. In my experience the inside pad wears faster than the outside pad.

yea i havent driven my car for almost a week now, ever since the noise started. i miss driving it. just been driving the legacy 2.5GT around. although its turboed, its not the same.

i ordered some hawk hps and they should be here in the next few days. im gonna wait till they arrive to see the condition of my current pads.

most likely not gonna resurface. Thanks for the input guys!!!
