Rear Rotor help!
Rear Rotor help!
I was able to replace my front brake and rotors, but my rear rotors gave me a lot of trouble. I screwed in the two screws to push out the rotor but it didn't pop out as easily as the front ones. Any idea why???
We then noticed the ebrake was still up so we let it down and my bro in law took out and rescrewed those two bolts in to try and pop out the rotor. Two pin holders behind he rotor seems to have broke off...
I have no idea what the heck it is. It just popped out. I think it used to hold some pin but when screwing those bolts in it somehow broke these...

I removed two bolts that was holding the caliper onto the back plate and that should be it right? I didn't read anything else anywhere about anymore bolts. I believe the silver part is one of the pins that used to be held by the item in the previous shot.

Just one question about this rubber part on the rear rotor.. what is it and what's its purpose?

the parking brake is sticking to the rotor that why it didnt come out that easy. u need to take that little rubber off and use a flat screwdriver to loosen the brake shoe by turining the adjuster wheel.
I didn't notice anything behind the rubber stopper, but even if i put my ebrake off i stll need to turn it? Okay at least i know to do that with my passenger side, but any idea what the other peice that broke off is used for?
How do i turn the rotor? So put the car in neutral and ebrake down? or keep ebrake up and just in neutral? Sorry a little distraught at how they just popped off like that. Any idea what those peices are called so i can get new ones. Thanks for helping me out.
I couldn't find anything on the 2005 evo but i'm assuming 03 is going to be very similar.

I believe it's the Rear Brake Shoe Spring Cup that broke off. Though it looked more like it was holding the rear brake pin. Still i couldn't get the rotor to turn. Any advice on that?

Any time I take apart brakes I'm not 100% sure of I only do one side at a time so I can reference the other side to get things back together. Now that you know how to get the rotor off go ahead and remove the other side so you can see what goes where, remove the rotor only don't take off any hardware inside it. You can get new brake hardware at a local parts store or at the dealer that "spring cup" needs to be replaced. You may have to back off the adjuster to get the rotors off I think that's what the rubber plug is for.
A note from the manual.
">>A<< SHOE SLACK ADJUSTER INSTALLATION
Install the rear brake adjuster so that the shoe adjusting bolt of
left hand wheel is attached towards the rear of the vehicle, and
the shoe adjusting bolt of right hand wheel is towards the front
of the vehicle."

well the thing is the rotor never came off. Even though that spring cup broke off the rotor still didn't come off. I'm afraid of doing the other side now as i didn't want to break the other side too. Is there a way to turn the rotor so i can access the shoe adusting bolt? currently i don't see it behind the rubber stopper.
Make sure the car is in neutral and use a long screw driver or pry bar between the studs and turn it. There is probably a lip on the inside of the e-brake drum that's stopping it from coming off. In other words the brake shoes are open further than the lip on the drum is. You may have pound on the drum portion to break the rust around the center hub to get it to move. There may be a rubber plug on the backing plate at the bottom also. If the rotor won't turn in one direction try the other. The adjuster is a small wheel with teeth on it you would use a screwdriver or a tool made just for it.
Here's a link to the section of the manual on the e-brake.

thanks. Looks like i may need to replace the hub as well. I've been calling the dealer for the spring holder cup and they said they dont' sell that alone and i'd need to buy the whole hub together. I'm not sure if the hub is something i'm able to put back together on my own.
Thanks for the link I'll take a look at it when i get home. Work firewall is preventing me from viewing it.

You may be able to get the drum off by putting some slack in the parking brake cable. You have to buy the whole hardware kit, it's like $15 at an auto parts store, it includes nails, springs and cups
O yeah i was reading the same doc earlier. Yeah i'll give that a try this weekend. Hope it doesn't rain on saturday so i can get this done. Say you said they sell those parts as a kit?? what are those kits called? I've never heard of this before.
