I am really don't know what wheels fit what, what offset I need etc.

I am looking at a set of used Gram lights for my car. 17x8.5 40mm offset these fit perfect on a 2g with 5mm spacers. Will they fit a evo? Would I need to use spacers?

a 40mm offset with a 5mm spacer puts them at about +35 offset. Stock evo wheels are +38, so the offset would be alright, however its a matter of wheel design to make sure they clear the brake caliper.
