Replacement tires?

The stock Yokohama's are great tires...but they're way too expensive. I need new tires that most importantly are cheaper and still have similar track performance.

I looked through the sticky which reviewed a bunch of tires, and that definitely helped me narrow some of my choices down.

However, the sticky doesn't have a review of the Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec. How does that compare to the Direzza DZ101? If it's good, it'd be way cheaper than Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R's.

Also, how does the Yokohama S.Drive fare? Is it more of a street tire than a track tire?

Some insight would help...thanks

I guess the search button is broken.

I know there is lots of info on the Z1s. I have posted whole threads about them.

They are nothing like the Z101s.

And the 615s cannot hold a candle to the Z1s.

The Yoko S.drive have good reviews in tire rack's site; very good price too.
I'd like to know too if anyone has tried them here.

if you are willing to take a slight step down from the stock tires to save a little bit of money. i say look at the hankook RS2, yoko s.drives, falken 615, hell even look at the fuzion zri.

i had the falken RT-615's on my car before and i loved them (not so great wet performance but they were very awesome i would recomend them for sure. also right now i have the bfg KDW's on my evo and they have a longer life treadwear than the falkens and they have far superior wet performance, they are basicall identical in price , i like both alot. just depends i guess on if you live in a place where your gonna get wet weather ever. falken treadwear= 220 BFG=300 so........ up to you
BOTH AWESOME

Just to reiterate what everyone other post has said here:

There is nothing on the market better than the Direzza Z1 (from a performance standpoint). The RE-01R and the Advan AD-07 come close, but race results have shown that they're not quite there (although this may be a lemming effect), and they're both more expensive to boot.

Anyone who still raves about the RT-615s has never ridden in a car with one of the three tires above on it.

The other tires you mentioned will absolutely suck on an Evo.

All of this assumes that you're looking for performance out of your tires, not noise/ride/mileage/etc...

The Z1's are closest to Yoko's oem tire, if not a tad better. The DZ101 is a step down and will give more life, ride, and quietness. However, the dry traction won't be near the Yoko or Z1's. S-drive is a great tire, but closer in performance to the DZ101. I wouldn't do more than an occasional auto-x with the DZ/S-drive's, but you can track track the Z1's.

What size tire do you plan on going with? 245/40/17 or 235/45/17 or 245/45/17

DO NOT GET THE HRI FUZIONS!!! The dealership I purchased my Evo from put those on it and they are by far the worst tire I have ever had. Not even close to comparable to the stock advans or ANY decent tire.
