Suspension issues--do I have the solution?
Suspension issues--do I have the solution?
Guys,
I am getting a horrible sound coming from the front KWv3 suspension with Cusco camber plates. The problem is not having extra long bolts or incorrect upper perches since I replaced both (shorter bolts and tapered perches). I think the Cusco camber plates did not come with spacers. In the pic I posted below, if you look carefully you can see a gap right below the big locking nut bottom surface and the pillow ball mount (silver curved surface) which is about 2-3mm wide.

I called Gruppe-S/dynamic Autosports and they suggested a longer top locking nut with spacers

Will this work? I think it will close out whatever gap and eliminate the noise. What do you guys think? Do yo think this will work to remove the awful clunking noise? Also, if I do replace the top locking nut I have now, can I just unscrew it and replace it with the new bolts? Do you think I can get away with just getting the longer nuts without the spacers? WIll I have to jack my car? WIll my alignment be off after replacing the nuts? Advance suspension tuners please chime in and let me know what your thoughts are. Thanks!

EDIT: It looks like the top of the shaft is similar to a Koni 8611. Get a whatever size you need to loosen the top nut, then put a 11mm wrench on the hex under the adjuster to hold the shock. It should come off with some elbow grease, and the shock won't move.
If I understand your original problem correctly, the camber plate is too low on top of the damper and is bolted directly to the upper spring perch, which would be incorrect. The plate should be spaced from the upper perch so that the bearing inside of it has full range of motion - you should be able to spin and tilt the plate freely on the top of the damper. If it's getting "hung up" somewhere (i.e. hitting the upper spring perch), then that will surely be the cause of your clunking.
