evo and tires

im wondering if other members on this board go through as many tires as me...i have about 65k on my evo and i went through 4 set of tires all from regular street driving...i had my car aligned 3 times already.. my stock advan lasted about 15k..and second pirelli lasted about 25k and someone slashed it.., bought another advan and now running some cheap sumitomo tires cause of high treadwear rating but seem like its wearing fairly quick already...im not sure if its the way i drive or my tire choices...i rarely drive aggressively cause i been clean of ticket for 5 years and trying to keep it that way... my next tire choice im thinking some Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position...anyone had any experience with these? it got really good rating on tirerack and the headquarter is about 25min away from my work so im thinking about picking up a set..

Yep, thats about normal. I go though 2 sets a year, one summer/race and one all-season (winter).

It doesn't matter what the tread wear rating is.....if you drive the car hard, don't expect it to last as long. Your alignment also has a little bit of affect on tires and due to stock/aftermarket specs, your tires will have a little more than average wear.

I wore out the stock Advans the first summer autocrossing on them but they were great while they lasted. They were definitely not made for any kind of winter driving. Even near full tread depth I slid through an intersection that was just freshly covered with light snow and I was only creeping along at about 15mph.

I have the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Positions on when I'm not autocrossing. I've been very happy with them for about 15k miles now. Don't expect dry performance from them to come close to the stock Advans though. They are all season tires after all with a tread pattern designed for such.

I'm still wearing down my first set of Z1 Star Specs that have about 10 autocross events on them and should be good for another 3 or so. If I'm lazy I'll keep the Z1s on in between events which makes the routine drives around town way more exciting. Cloverleaf interchanges rock!

We are driving high performance cars so fast wearing tires should be an expected cost of ownership. I'm sure everyone has a favorite curve or twisty stretch of road somewhere that lets you hear those tires squeal for dear life!

The stock Advans last about 15,000 - 20,000 miles for most. I took mine off and went with 18 inch wheels and tires. I had some Kuhmo Escta tires that fit the rims but were awful for grip. I don't recommend them unless you're looking for a summer only tire that has no lateral grip at all.

I kept them on the car and got involved with other projects (working on my truck, etc.) and basically forgot the tires were there. I rarely drove the car over the winter and when I finally did take it out, I bent two rims on a Chicago pothole. It was great. I had the rims fixed and bought a new set of Star Specs. I haven't had a chance to drive the car yet but I'm hoping it will at least have grip again, even if the tires wear out quicker. When I took the Kuhmo crap off, they looked to still be full tread depth, even with over 10,000 miles on them.

That sounds like an alignment issue to me, unless you drove 20,000 in 8 months.

Did you have your Evo aligned right after you bought it or you just roll around on the factory (mis)alignment?

My stock advans lasted me 30k, mostly freeway but 1 track day and some aggressive driving too.

I'm on my second set of advans, but they're almost gone with about 20k on them.

I can't afford to replace them with advans again, so I'm going with either RT615s or Z1 Star Specs.
