Question from a noob...

Let me first start by saying I am sorry. I know nothing about tires/sizes.

My car is dumped right now and very close to rubbing (3mm about), and I need new tires..

I have 245/45/17s on my car right now, and I am looking to get some NT05's and they are 255/40/17.. my question is, will the size difference be enough to make me rub?

Thanks.

Negative. The 255/40's actually have a shorter sidewall than the 245/45. What is your wheel offset? That may contribute to rubbing but the sidewall will not be a factor.

side wall height is about 4.3 inches on the 245/45 and 4.0 inches on the 255/40

with the new tire sizes you shouldn't have any issue with side wall height. the only rubbing you might get is from the inside of the tire rubbing against the inside spring at full lock. You will probably be ok though. People on here are running alot fatter tires than those on here with no issues. good luck with the new tires.

Go to tirerack.com or the tire manufacturer's website and look up the tires' diameter and width. That should tell you what to expect.

I'm running 255/40/17's, but in the RT-615's and there is no rubbing. Several others are running the same size in the NT-05 and reporting no rubbing.
To compare tire sizes;
