Replacment Tires

Hey Guys,

The time has come to replace my tires on my evo. I live in NY and I use my car as a DD all year round and i need a tire that will be quiet and perform somewhat well in all types of conditions. What are your opinions?

The tires i have looked at are:

Yokohama S. Drive

AND

Falken Ziex ZE-512

If you're using your car all year round in NY, the S.Drives would be a bad choice because they are a summer tire, according to Tire Rack.

The Falken 512s (I think they were replaced by the 912s) are decent value-for-money tires with pretty good dry, wet, and snow grip, but with very soft sidewalls, so don't bother trying to take turns hard with them unless you have them well over 40 psi. Steering response isn't good either, obviously.

A set of summers and a nice winter set, well thats what i do. I just have the stock rims for winter. Never seen a really good all around tire.

Yeah, not a good choice for colder temp climates. Check out the B-Stone RE960 or Yoko Advan S4 for a great sport a/s tire.

I have those now. They are okay for DC/VA winters where snow is light and there's the occasional ice, but I'd be skeptical about their performance up in heavy snow like you see in NY. UHP A/S aren't really meant for deep snow anyway. The Proxes have better sidewalls than the Falkens, but worse snow traction. Dry and wet performance is about the same.

For other options, check out the Tire Rack survey results, the two choices Neal recommended above are good:

Like already posted, if you want guaranteed snow performance, you'll have to get dedicated snows.
