Need bolt grade advice!!

I just picked up the Robispec rear sway bar and was told I might need longer bolts for the mounting bracket it is a pretty thick piece piece. Just wondering what grade bolts I should be using if I were to buy them. I think grade 5 will be strong enough?

Thanks,

Chu

I can't provide any technical insight, but why not just use grade 8's? Shouldn't cost much much and are easily sourced.

Not the cost I'm worried about. Just want to use what is sufficient. Although grade 8 is technically stronger, I have read that it is also more brittle. But thats why I started this thread.

"grade" 2 or common hardware is usually suficient for automobile applications. obviously a part that is stamped with a grade is superior in that they have been tested even if only grade 2. also consider the application, be it testion or shear. most shear bolts are grade 5 at least, if not alloy or specialty metal.

consider where the part is being used, your minimums for quality should be based on that. if a bolt failure would cause loss of life limb or eyesight spring for the good stuff. remember that most common hardware is steel, so don't go getting your ride all messed up corroding it with dissimilar metls either. good luck.
