rear strut bars make a noticeable difference?

I already have the RS trunk bar in my VIII. I have been looking at different brands that offer rear strut bars, everything from fixed to adjustable ends. Just wondering if this mod is really worth doing? Are fixed ends that much better than the adjustable ones?

Are you sure you don't mean rear sway bar?

Try completing it with the works trunk cage, then you will feel a bigger difference in stability.

I have been wondering the same thing. After discussing this with a few track pals, I came to the conclusion that in theory it should be a benefit. I also have the RS bar and was considering the full trunk cage or a rear strut tower bar.

In the end, I went with a beatrush bar. I liked how it is positioned between the strut towers. It arrived 2 days after ordering and the communication with Jason and Chris at Maximum output has been excellent. I'll get the bar in and reply back with thoughts and pics. here's the link: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...mance-bar.html

Ya, I was looking at the Beatrush. Nice design. Let me know how you like it.

no. Rear strut tower bar is what I meant actually. Or for the evo, isn't it technically a rear SHOCK tower bar? heh.

I got one for free - didn't notice any difference. But I left it in there. Looked cool

No difference in my opinion. Your money is better spent elsewhere (swaybar, bushings, pizza, beer, etc.)

Ok. Well I had a RSTB on my 03 and noticed no difference. The RSB on the other hand was like night and day.

^ There you go.

That same money on bushings will make a huge difference. Doesn't have the same "bling" as the "strut tower bar" but makes the car a lot more fun. Same with a rear swaybar.

Till further testing at my next track day, I will use Mythbuster's terminology and say "plausible". The rear strut/shock/suspension bar definitely isn't top of any suspension mod list. Swaybars, bushings, coilovers, cornerbalancing, tire pressure, and driver training all make the list before RSTB. SmikeEvo is right though, they do look cool.

Well, we know Mitsu installed a front upper stress bar for a reason & I would theorize that the rear towers do the same thing

For the Engineers out there, Install a dial indicator between the towers & we'll all see how much movement there maybe.......As far as feeling the diff, I would say no way.......RSB FTW.....Peace

We do not have a folding down trunk. If you look behind the trunk carpet you will see a V-brace that is a structural piece. That is why its not very effective on this car. Now, on the old lancer, with folding seats - the RTB would make a difference.

Ive got the RS, so I know the piece you're referring to.........Thats maybe the reason Mitsubishi didnt install a rear strut brace IDK........Would still like to strain gauge or dial indicate that area........Peace

I got an eBay rear strut tower bar for $23 shipped and at that price I say go for it. No huge improvements, but along with the RS trunk bar it did a nice job stiffening up the rear of the chassis a bit and did seem to make the car rotate a bit easier on the auto-x course.
