Racing Rain Tires

Hey,
A friend of mine told me there are Hossier Rain Tires available. Personally I have never heard of such tires existing. Any info?

thanks,

Hoosier rain tires do exist. They take a long time to order but are very effective. Two types exist, the Radial Wet, and the Dirt Stocker.

Radial Wet

They start as a full tread debth slick. Then, the tire has its tread design hand carved into it by a Hoosier tech. They are carved in an asymmetric/directional design. This is a very effective wet weather tire and has held up to the conditions of a drying track.

Dirt Stocker

This is also a dedicated wet tire designed for autocross purposes. They are molded instead of hand carved, also DOT legal.

We can special order these tires if you like. Usually takes a couple of weeks for delivery. Hope this information has helped

Thumbs up

Thanks alot Neal. Actually you helped allot. My last race for the season is next weekend so the the tires would not arrive in time. I do already have a set of Hossier DOT slicks, that I bought from TireRack, for tha race. I might order the rain tires for the 04' season. I'll be sure and let you know.

Thanks again,
Julian Gutierrez

If you use full skid Toyo RA 1's that is a rain tire as well. Not as good as the Hoosier but a more cost effective choice. AS you can run them wet or dry. If you go with a dirt stocker, you will burn it up unless you have monsoon conditions. As for the new Hoosier molded rain, good luck in getting one. My company is the largest independent Hoosier road race tire dealer in the midwest and we've never seen one. They've been in R&D for two years! Hey, if you can get the Toyo Trampio, that is a great rain tire. It is what is being used as rain tire in Speed Challange series. In fact as you know they will be in San Jaun this weekend. Go to the Toyo trailer and ask to see them.

Need more info on Hoosiers or Toyo's? drop me a PM or go to our website, frisbyracetire.com

BTW, if you needed the Dirt stocker I can have them to you in a few days. Just have to pay the shipping. They are in the warehouse and ready to go.

tswift,

Thanks for your added advice. I do know the Touring cars will be in San Juan, Puerto Rico next weekend. I will be racing in that same event in a race organized by the PR race car club. Anyway I look forward to seeing all those cars run in person. I have decided to use my Evo8 stock Advan tires if it rains. I already tested them on a wet track and they worked fine. I really wish it rains, having AWD in rain against high horse power RWD cars is almost unfair.. jejeje .. Just for comparison, during clasification for our last race on the island it rained. I clasified 4th overall after three SCCA TransAm-like full blown race cars, by only a .1 second gap from 3rd place!! Just in case, I race a 1999 Evolution 6, you can see it in my profile.

Thanks,
Julian Gutierrez
