PSS9 Owners

Just wondering how your damping is set-up. I've read 7 for the front and 5 for the rear to be the best set-up for DD. But I just read an old thread and someone saying the opposite 5 front and 7 rear to be the best. So my question is, which is it?

I have 9 all around and I like it, the only thing I hate is a front left clunk do you have any sort of clunks/noises from your PSS9's?

I have it at 9 all around too. Been riding this way since I installed them about 6months ago. I did have clunking when I installed them and couldn't figure it out. Matter of fact it was my front left. I had CBRD do my alignment after that I don't notice any clunking. I do get some rattling time to time in the front left but that is from my fender lining.

wow so you had the same anoying clunk, it's only on small bumps or uneven pavement at pretty slow speeds, I am about to get some new top mounts to see if that fixes it, other than that I love those bilsteins, I did play with the settings a little, what I read and heard is don't put it too hard in the front (engine weight) so if you want to try a different setting I would say go 6 front, 4 rear perhaps.

Yea, it was only going over small bumps that I was getting the clunking noise. Like I said I couldn't figure it out, I thought it was normal. On my previous car which was a GTi and it was slammed on FK coils I got a lot of clunking but was told it was normal. I figured this was the same case since both the GTi and my Evo rode/ride excellent. I really love these coilovers they ride much smoother than my KYB suspension and the handling is superb especially with a CBRD spec alignment

I'm going out of town tomorrow but when I get back I'm going to try 6 front and 4 rear and see how it is. I mean the 9 all around is perfect but just want to see by changing the damping if it will increase performance but will still ride smooth like it does on the 9 setting all around.

It will change, let us know how you like the ride.... on another note, can you tell what are the alignment specs you got? I am trying to get a good alignment toe/camber/caster for this suspension, thanks

I'll let you know....To be honest with you I don't no the exact specs. Maybe CBRD could chime in, if not I would PM Chad at CBRD and ask him. With his racing experience I know I could not go wrong with a CBRD spec alignment. He might be able to send you a spec alignment sheet and get whoever that is doing your alignment to go off of CBRD specs.

I've auto'xed for 2 years on my PSS9's with Tein pillow-ball mounts. I have them custom valved for 12k front 16k rear and they're freaking awesome.

7/5 I wouldn't recommend at all. The standard PSS9 rates I thought were close to 8/9. If anything the wheel/motion ratio of the rear of the car makes the rate in the rear effectively lower than it really is, so (math probably being way off here) 7k front 5k rear might be an effective 7k front 4k rear.

I'd match the springs or go a tad higher in the rear of the car. 8k/8k or 7/8, 7/9 are probably fine, but I'd not go 7/5.

I'm no expert on this topic, but i've had a lot of trial and error with spring rates.. just my disclaimer

I would also recommend talking to Andrew at GTWorx.com (evom sponsor).

I'm sure he has great input to offer on the topic.

I think the numbers they're talking about are damper settings.

dammit. can you tell i'm passionate about this topic? I've seen so many people that run 7/5 spring rates and they absolutely hate them that whenever i see those '7 and 5' numbers I feel obligated to post.

Anywayss.... I run 3/2 track, 6/6 driving around town.

I just installed my pss9s...When i had them 9 all around I would get the annoying clunking sound over small bumps at low speed. Since them I firmed up the damper settings and the clunking went away. I'm thinking it had something to do with the valving.
