2009 Winter Tire / Wheel thread.

Well there is no official thread yet for us to converse about the upcoming winter season, and the wheels / tires we will be running; here it is, and I will start.

This winter is my first with an AWD car. In the previous winters I drove 2 rwd R32 Skylines running $85 Walmart winter tires, which did great for what the car was. Last winter I drove an 01 325ci, with Blizzak WS-60 tires, and I was very unimpressed with them to say the least. Very little grip on the highways, and not good in deep snow. They were great for daily driving around town though, if the snow isn't too deep.

I'm about to purchase 4 hankook Icebear W300's to run on my Evo 8. I will be using the current wheels for winter which are Rota P45R's 17x9. The wheel size greatly reduces my choice for winter rubber, and since I plan to buy Volks next summer I'm not worried about the ice damage the rims will take. I am also not looking to spend a whole lot on winter tires seeing as I no longer daily drive my vehicles, the Hankook is a 240kmph speed rated tire, and still looks like a performance summer tire.

How is the Evo in snow, and icy roads? I will use my "SNOW" setting for snowy areas, but on wet or icy pavement do you guys run your cars in "snow" or just gravel for those conditions?

Also, what tires are you guys running, and what have you had good luck with?
