brakes on a budget?

i need to replace both front and rear brakes. im on a pretty tight budget but would like to upgrade slightly from stock form so to say. the evo is my DD and i might do one track session next summer at road america, other than that just normal driving. i like the girodisc stage 2 kit but i dont really feel like paying 7-800 dollars. their bailout rotors dont look to bad especially since they only run $200. what pads would you guys recommend for my needs from your experience? thanks for any advice fellas!

the bailout rotors work just fine, and the girodisk magic pads are good for the street.
If you are going to go for track sessions in the future, but not soon,
I'd say grab the magic pads, then get a second set for track use when track time is close, and your budget grows out a bit.
That's what I'm up to.
My brakes were corpses, so I went this route.
Its the cheapest initially, and will let you get full-time race pads in the future.

Track session = track pads. Period.

Girodiscs good DD.

Axxis ULTs, nice upgrade, cheap too. Good for AX.

Track pad - well its a track pad. See my sticky the the full run down.

The Axxis Pads have a little better overall performance over the Magic Pads and a higher operating temp (Axxis 900deg F vs Magic 750deg F). However the Axxis pads do not have the initial cold bite the Magic Pads have, they make more dust and are more prone to making noise. Price of the Axxis pads have also gone up because the main distributer for them has droped them to run their oun line of pads. We longer sell them because of that but if you want a good mid range aggresive street pad these are a great canidate.

I ran the Axxis for a year, pads worked great and bite very well. I will agree with Martin on the dust and pad noise. Dusts badly, and makes noise here and there, but they're great for the price. Running the Magic Pads now, and the bite is noticeable less, but I autox them without a problem.

does the dust negatively affect any components in the area? (other than just being dirty)

I have the magic pads, they have very low dust and they provide nice stopping for DD. There have only been a few times where I heard squeals, but i believe it is my rotors more then the pads. They also come shimmed already.

If you need cheap replacements you can get the Duralast Gold's from Autozone. I would not reccomend using them at the track but they work great to get around on. I didnt think I would ever buy them for my car, but didnt have much money and im actually pleased with them just to get around with.

Went this route... for $40 more, I could have done the Magic pads and been happier I think. I just had to have pads THAT DAY and the Duralast Gold ceramics were in stock. They have a hair less bite compared to stock from what I remember. However, been real nice on dust... or lack there of. Just don't have the assloads of bite that my favorite street pads have.

Miss the HELL out of my Ferodo DS2500's
If the Ferodos were as dust free as the Duralasts, I'd gladly pay $500 a set I think.
