Rear strut problem

Just installed some Bilstein shocks in the front and rear since my front passenger stock shock blew out on me. Everything went well, or so I assumed until I lowered the car and drove it out of the drive way, then I heard a noise coming from the trunk and a little more driving I heard squeeking. I pop the trunk and see that the metal rod of the strut had shot through the trunk liner and the strut is probably resting on the bump stop.

I don't have a picture of it right now but will take one in the morning. I'm wondering why this happened. I lowered the car before when I put in my Swifts and I did the same process for the Bilsteins.

Was wondering if it was cause of the insulators I used from the stock KYB's since the Bilsteins didn't come with any. To help show what I mean by that, here's a pic from evomoto.

I hope someone knows what I'm talking about and can chime in here. I also hope my struts arn't blown cause of this, I haven't even had them for a week.

All the stock parts, other than the spring, should be used.
