bilstein shocks from the EVO MR model

Is anyone interested in the 'MR' evolution's suspension?

According to Mitsubishi, the 'MR" edition has specially valved bilstein shocks. I'm not sure if they changed the spring rates or swaybar sizes.

Anyways, would anyone be interested in buying a set of these bilsteins? Also who do you think can get a hold of these? Anyone from Japan know the p/n?

Thanks,

Steve

The car is not out till January in Japan - I would not expact parts till after that either, and only with a VIN number at first to get parts (which we'll have thankfully )

I was thinking that those might be a relatively low cost alternative to custom Konis for stock class autocrossers. It doesn't sound like they're adjustable though, and being OEM, I can't imagine they will be cheap, unless you get takeoffs from someone doing coilovers. Which is what I have already done with the normal Evo struts so that I would have a set of donor struts if I did decide to spring for the Konis. Well, we'll see I guess...

I doubt these will be pricy, the advantage is that bilsteins are very tough and reliable, and once you get the valving right which is the important thing (Mitsu dialed it in with the MR EVO on Nurburgring in Germany), then if you get the same springs they used, or if they use stock springs hopefully this is way better than 30 million way adjustable coilovers, and way cheaper.

I predict, about $300-500 for the set of shocks, which is money well spent.

Anyone can slap on any rate springs on the car, but getting the shock valving right on a car requires alot of research and telemetry from track sampling.

The new 911GT2 (or maybe it was the 3) claims to use a new type of Bilsteins. These are meant to have a new type of valves and seals to reduce the difference in their static/dynamic friction. In other words it eliminates the high friction value required to get the damper's piston moving, allowing for better response. I guess it should also lowers the heat generated by the damper, making the damper even better (more stable).

The GT2(or 3) was released early this year. I think it's pretty likely that the EVO MR has the same system.

{Most ppl will prolly know this already, but for those who don't, the Bilsteins on the MR are non adjustable, as seen at the Tokyo Motorshow.}

These might work for me - I am still not 100% convinced about the need for coilovers.

Not sure if this is news, but Gruppe-S is now offering the MR bilstein struts. The prices are substantially higher than I would have guessed @ $2050 for front/rear:

Pricing aside for the moment, are the springs and general geometry in the MR the same (or close enough) to that of our '03 GSR, that these struts would still be a good match?

Its just one post with a couple of replies, just food for thought. I am not saying the "specially" valved Bilsteins are bad or good....

saw a set of MR bilsteins on Yahoo Japan auctions a day ago. The bid was well over $1700 USD (after conversion rate). Might as well just buy a set of Coilovers with that money. hahaha

Hi,

I have a set of EVO8 MR original Bilstein suspension kit for sale. It had been taken out from car after a few day old. It is a good kit if you do not mind the ride hide. The reason for changing is I wanted a lower ride on my MR. If you are keen on this suspension kit, kindly drop me a mail at sumitoyo@pacific.net.sg
