9.6kg unsprung weight reduction is not bad. Wouldn't it be cool if your wheels were 7.8lb instead of 7.8kg?

Claudius,

Nice wheels. Have been looking for a set to run with semi-slicks for a while. I was tilting towards the Volks but yours are really nice also. Can you give me an approx price range?

Need education:

Are magnesium wheels more "delicate" than aluminum alloy? ie do they crack when you hit serious bumps? (curb?) when others might take more abuse?

Has anyone tried widening the wheelbase of the Evo a touch? Worth it?

Claudius,

Nice choice - I've got the same style wheels currently on order, but choose the 8x18 in their flow formed alloy (10 kgs) - still a great weight saving on my current wheels.

Your going to need to be careful with those. Speedline UK warned me off those for road use - hope your roads are better. Scrubbing / cracking those and the magnesium will react to the air I've been told - nice fireworks around your wheel arches. But at the end of the day a great weight saving, also pleased to hear the the car feels better / lighter. Others also mentioned about annual x-raying to check for internal stress fractures - so I hope you know a couple of friendly nurses in the local hospital.

btw - Any news on the stroker kit ? - Got mine installed, but even with the standard turbo (roller bearing conversion - great pickup) the injectors are maxed out at 1.5 bar. So 700cc on their way and then 2 bar through the mid range - the torque though is amazing, had to put a taller 5th in (just keeps pulling). Final mapping in two weeks.

Cheers,

Garry

I don't think it's going to react with air cause it's not pure magnesium we're talking about here, but aluminium mixed with magnesium. Even pure magnesium needs pure oxygen, normal athmospheric oxygen levels aren't enough. The thing about cracking them is that you can't fix them and they crack very easily compared to normal aluminium wheels.
