Blown Bilsteins !?!

Has anyone wore out their MR Bisteins yet ?
With or without aftermarket springs ?
What was the mileage, and usage - Track, Daily driven ?

My stock KYB struts went out at around 60K, and now I'm on Bilsteins with Swift sports. Just wondering what kind of mileage I can expect out of Bilsteins mostly as a daily driven mileage on rough N.Y./N.J. roads. Thanks for your info!

I say if you don't have some Tein S-Techs on your Bilsteins, you'll be find for a long time on the Bilstens.
Tein - S-Tech will make those Bilsteins to shame. :x

40-60k is about right for struts. But you can rebuild them when they go. Thats just another reason why the Bilsteins are awesome.

I'm guessing the struts can deteriorate gradually, and I'm actually not feeling it?
I'm trying to figure out when I should send it out for revalving.

Also, I'm getting "clunking" noise from the front struts, which I'm guessing is the stock mounts/bearings are worn out.

Are the alignment holes for the spring perches lined up?

Check for fluids too. One good NYC pothole can end a strut.

How do you check the fluid for the strut? Do you mean to check for leaks?

I guess I'll have to check for spring alignment. Thanks for the inputs!

Yes. If there is fluid around the piston/strut housing area, its a tell-tell sign.

Very welcome! Keep us posted!

You sure do tell it like it is. I got back the other day from a road trip to Maryland and New York killed my car. I did my best to avoid as many as I could however sometimes it was impossible due to cars right next to me...

My front left bilstein now clunks a lot and upon inspection I found oil around the strut tube...On top of that I managed to crack a rim so it no longer holds air. Oh do I love New York

Tell me about it. It sucks because I was about planning on autocrossing the car for the first time all season tomorrow...

So I see that its 75 bucks to have the strut revalved. Does that include the return shipping costs as well? Also what is the typical turn around time?

The shipping is on us, and I think the website said about two weeks.
Anyway check Bilstein.com for all the details.

When I sold my KYB's shipping was about 50 bucks so I figure it should be about 15 bucks. I just wasnt sure if they charged a flat rate or what not. I cant decide what to do because I am only home for the summer then my car sits in the garage while I am at school. So it would be nice to send it in while I am at school however at the same time I want to race my car this summer and I dont think it would do to well with a blown strut.

How many miles were approximately on your Bilsteins when you sent them out for revalving? Did you use then for Autox, "racing" ..?
Just trying to figure the average life before they start to let go, thank you.
