Problem after installing Teins.
Problem after installing Teins.
Hey what's up guys, I'm not sure if theres any threads to solve my particular problem that I'm having so I'll ask help here.
I installed a used set of Teins on stock evo 9 struts about 2 days ago. The weird thing is that right after I got them installed, Everytime I turn the wheel left, my left driver side clunks REALLY bad, it sounds as if the spring rotated and isn't sitting right, So I eventually took it to a buddy of mine because hes a mechanic and had him fix the spring to have it sit better because he said that the spring DID rotate. So once I get everything back on again, I test drive it and it still clunks, but not as bad as the first time. My friend told me to just let it sit for a few days and see what happens...
I have a feeling it won't go away in a few days. Should I just dissasemble both the strut and spring and get it recompressed again?
Some info:
The struts have about 10k miles on them
The springs have a about 5k miles on them.
Came off of a really low mileage evo9.
I have a 03' Evo8.
It clunks EVERYTIME only when I turn the wheel left, like when I'm making a U-turn.
Any help, opinions, tips, and Ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

Yeah, I know I know. I've heard alot of horror stories. But I know alot of my Evo buddies run them and I've driven some of their cars with the S-techs but they're fine to me. It also kina fell on my lap for cheap, I couldn't say no to low mileage struts considering mine already have 80k on them. I also know the guy I bought them from, and I know for a fact his car is a garage queen and is low miles.
Maybe I should consider buying new better springs.
But I'm the type to not give up until I find out the problem!
Yeah, I think I'll have the whole thing disassembled this time and have it sit properly! Hopefully I get it right soon, my car is begging for an alignment :P

well first the spring can correctly sit only one way connecting with the rubber end. if it is moving when you turn the wheel, it means top mount bearings are seized.
try this, uninstall the front strut and one at a time see if you can rotate the top portion without effecting the springs themselves. i bet you'll see instantly what i am talking about

If they are seized, you will need to replace them.
I have seen where corrosion seized them, and they were soaked in penetrating oil for a week and it fixed it.
But usually it is a mechanical problem, not rust/corrosion.

Yeah I was thinking it is probably more of a mechanical problem, considering there's only 10k miles on the struts.
No more clunking! I took out the strut and found out that the top middle hole didn't align correctly with the bottom hole. Thanks to Jonahevo's info! And thanks to everyone else that had input!
