Brake Dust?!?!

Ok so I was told to buy ceramic brake pads as they had a lighter colored brake dust that was less visible. Well my brakes have horrible dust issues that is really annoying because I am constantly cleaning my wheels. I have Hawk Ceramic pads w/Brembo slotted rotors and stock calipers on all four. My wheels are gloss black which I am sure doesn't help my cause at all. The dust is bronze/brown in color and is dominate on the front wheels more so than the back. Is this normal?

yea it is normal to get more in the front than rears.. one thing you should try is armor all wheel protector. it actually works, i dont remember but i think one application lasted me about 1.5-2 weeks, just dont let any soap touch it when u wash in between applications. or u could just simply do a touch up spray i guess. id stock up on them tho, it takes almost half a bottle to do all 4 wheels properly.

You could always try a different pad... I have RacingBrake ET500's on my car and they seem to dust very little while still offereing good brake performance.

Your always gonna have more dust up front though.

some pads have more brake dust that others, but their all gonna have some. Brake dust is unavoidable when you have performance brake pads.

EBC Red pads seem to produce less dust compared to the Hawk HPS (never tried the ceramic), at least from my experience.

Also could try Porterfield R4's. They produce as much dust as other pads but it is suppossedly easier to get off the wheel and less damaging to the wheel surface (just what I read).

your always going to have more brake dust in the front than the rear as all production cars have a preset brake bias more towards the front

I know that most of the braking is done up front. when I said there was more dust up front than in the rear I really meant to say there is none in the rear. Basically all the rear wheels have on them is road dust, its greyish black in color as opposed to the brown up front. The pads perform pretty well and I have considering buying EBC's but have not done so yet. I do not road race the car, nor do I SCCA race. Hell I dont even go to the drag strip just my DD car that I occasionally street race. Which EBC pad would you all recommend?

brakedust comes with braking. i've found that it doesn't matter what pads you use, there is going to be some dusting of the wheels. Armor all has a wheel protectant that i've been using for a couple months now and it works substantially. it keeps brakedust and grime from sticking to the wheel. the most i have to do with my wheel is a wipe down after a carwash ( sometime i reapply the protectant) but thats every other week or so. here's the link for it. try it out

I was having the same issue until I use the Armor All Wheel Protectant!!! As long as you follow the directions, it works wonders for repelling brakedust!!!

I use Hawk HPS pads. They have pretty low dust and I have white rims too. If you're really OCD about it, use the Armor All or Eagle One clean wheel spray. They both work well to repel the brake dust.

I can't help but not feel bad for a person with black rims tho. Try white

I tried the Armor All stuff. I wasnt impressed as it left a white residue on my black wheels. I wiped it off and was worried that I had removed the product. Cleaning them was a little easier but not as the advertisement had shown. From my understanding Evo's are really bad about brake dust regaurdless of the pad you choose.
